A well stocked first aid kit is also an important component of your home \u201cget away\u201d kit for use during a natural disaster or other emergency. Sterile gauze pads (3\u201dX3\u201d) and (2\u201dX2\u201d) and guaze bandage rolls (1\u201d and 2\u201d), and vet wrap.
\nFirst aid adhesive tape, 1\u201d roll
\nCotton swabs
\nTweezers
\nScissors
\nPlastic freezer\/sandwich bags
\nSmall bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide
\nStyptic pencil or cornstarch ( to stem blood flow from minor cuts)
\nAntibacterial ointment
\nAntiseptic cleansing wipes
\nKaopectate or Pepto Bismol (canned pumpkin can also help with stomach upset)
\nA current pet first aid book
\nEyewash
\nEyedropper
\nMineral Oil (a lubricant and laxative when given by mouth)
\nDigital or rectal thermometer in a plastic case
\nLeather work gloves (to protect you from being bitten)
\nLatex gloves
\nLeash
\nThin rope
\nSplint materials (tongue depressor, 12 inch wooden ruler, or thick magazine)
\nMuzzle (soft or basket style to which your dog has been desensitized)<\/p>\n
AND ALWAYS, but especially with injury or emergency in mind, ensure that your dog has identification, including microchip or tattoo, to facilitate returning him to you if you should become separated.<\/p>\n
